An Overview of the Learning Profile of Children with Down Syndrome at the Post-Primary School Stage 29.1.24

This webinar / seminar will support those working with students with Down syndrome at the post -primary school stage, in both mainstream and special settings. The rights of students to attend a school of their choice will be discussed along with the impact of their learning strengths and needs on their progress and development. The specific learning needs or learning profile of the student will be outlined; and implications for educators will be discussed. The importance of adapting the curriculum and differentiating teaching materials will be highlighted. An overview of junior cycle options, the student’s behaviour, social development and independence building will also be presented, and useful resources will be discussed. Opportunities will be provided for Q & A and discussion. The webinar will be facilitated by Fidelma Brady, Head of Education DSI with additional support provided by other colleagues in the Member Support Team DSI.
