Mata sa Rang

 

 

 

 

 

Maths Recovery (Ireland) in conjunction with Laois Education Centre invites primary schools who are interested in having teachers trained in Mata sa Rang to apply for inclusion in this programme in January 2020 (dates to be confirmed).

The overall aim of this project is to train teachers in the approaches drawn from the Maths Recovery Programme in order to support in-class approaches to numeracy. In 2019/20, there will be two modules available.

Module 1: The content of this module will be broadly aimed at first class (much of the content is applicable to Infants or second class: Number Words and Numerals; Structuring Number; Early Addition & Subtraction).

Module 2: The content of this module will be broadly aimed at third class (much of the content is applicable to second or fourth class: Conceptual Place Value; Addition & Subtraction to 100 and beyond; Multiplication & Division).

In order to participate in this project schools are requested to commit to the following:

  • Support the teacher to practice instruction/assessments
  • Pay costs of core text and content booklet, print materials, CD, tutor costs, refreshments and support (€200 per teacher per module) payable to Laois Education Centre on application. See list below of materials included in the cost.

Participating teachers will be expected to:

  • Attend and participate in all training; complete school-based tasks; and complete a reflective journal/brief report.

Teaching Materials (2 x Write-on Numeral Flip Stands; 2 x Child’s Rekenrek)

Contents of Module 2 pack:  (€200 per teacher per module)

Red Book ‘Teaching Number in the Classroom with 7-11year olds’

Booklet with all handouts

Pack 2 materials (250 pages on laminated card)

DVD of printable materials

(The reduction in cost in Module 2 is accounted for by not including the concrete teaching materials from Autopress)

Training will take place in Laois Education Centre and will be over 15 hours, delivered as five 3-hour sessions out of school time. A certificate of completion will be awarded.

Call for Papers for Conference on Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

EQUALITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: Building Community in our Education System

This one-day conference will take place as follows:
Venue: Laois Education Centre, Portlaoise
Date: Sat. Feb. 29th 2020
Time: 9.30 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.

The theme of this conference challenges us to look at issues around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (E.D.I.) through the lens of community and belonging in the Irish education system across early years, primary and post-primary sectors. The conference will attempt to explore what is the reality in our education settings in relation to E.D.I., what are the challenges to E.D.I. and how can we conceptualise and realise the best possible future for all our students. It will explore how we can create truly inclusive learning environments while navigating the complex terrain of E.D.I. successfully for all who are part of this system. This day will focus on sharing learning and advancing good practice. We welcome abstracts in the area of E.D.I. from practitioners, researchers and those who have completed projects/studies in the area of E.D.I.

Conference Format:
• Snapshot Sessions: 10 minute sessions – max. 10 slides.
A quick-fire presentation of an intervention, project or idea.

• Deeper Dives:
25 minute sessions featuring 20 minutes of presentation and a 5 minute Q&A

• Interactive Workshops:
Hands-on sessions showcasing a resource/intervention/project etc. that falls under the umbrella of E.D.I.

• Poster Presentation:
Presentation of research information in the form of a poster that
conference participants may view.
