Arithmetic Through the Senses 19LSL04
PLEASE NOTE: All course fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable
This course aims to equip teachers with visible and tactile methods for the development of children’s number-concepts. As an example of classroom teaching-method, this sequence is used: From visible picture-making - to memory and mental picture - to concept. This addresses the need of all children, to inwardly picture number-relationships, and especially the needs of those who struggle to do this. Where appropriate, the focus will be on the specific needs of the dyslexic and the dyscalculic children. Participants gain a kit bag of multi-sensory methods through doing the practical tasks and through the illustrated material to take-away.An understanding of this approach enables teachers to create their own techniques. The course spans the journey of primary mathematics by starting with counting, then working through various activities of arithmetic and finally making a beginning with algebra.
