This face-to-face course in Laois Education Centre will provide an overview of the Edmark Reading Programme, which is designed to support literacy development for children with additional needs. This programme is particularly suited to children with Autism, those with working memory difficulties, visual learners and those who have not experienced success with phonics instruction. It helps children to see themselves as readers and allows children to experience success in reading through a variety of activities. The course will cover the resources and teaching approaches of Edmark, as well as assessment, planning, and how Edmark can be adapted to suit SEN and SET settings.
Course attendees will be enabled to:
Elaine Stapleton has 7 years experience teaching in an Autism special class. While undertaking the postgraduate diploma in special education, she was introduced to the Edmark Reading Programme and brought it to her own class and later to the wider school.
Nicola O’Lone has 8 years experience in SET at various class levels. She has used Edmark with students with varying needs and abilities in SET and has adapted the programme for use in SET alongside other literacy support.
