Understanding & Supporting Bereaved Students for Teachers and SNAs 11.3.2021
Given that almost a third of nine-year-old students in Ireland have experienced the loss of a loved one, it is important for teachers and other school staff to have the necessary skills to be able to understand and support bereaved students. The aim of this webinar is to provide school staff with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with common reactions to grief and to offer guidance about speaking to students about the death of a loved one. It looks at children and young peoples’ understanding of death and how best to support bereaved children, while recognising associated risk factors, as well as signposting some useful resources to use in the classroom. This hour-and-a-half long webinar is presented by NEPS psychologists Joan Heduan and Mary Sherwin.
Teachers may find it useful to have a copy of their Responding to Critical Incidents (Neps publication) at hand for reference
