Understanding & Supporting Bereaved Students for Teachers and SNAs 29.9.2020
This webinar suitable for both primary and post-primary teachers and SNAs is presented by Joan Heduan and Mary Sherwin (NEPS psychologists working in the Midlands). Given that almost half of nine-year-old students in Ireland have experienced bereavement, it is important for teachers to have the necessary skills to be able to understand and support these children.
The aim of this webinar is to provide teachers with the opportunity to familiarise themselves with common reactions to grief and to offer guidance about speaking to students about the death of a loved one. It looks at children and young peoples’ understanding of death and how best to support bereaved children, while recognising associated risk factors, as well as signposting some useful resources to use in the classroom.
Teachers may find it useful to have a copy of their Responding to Critical Incidents (Neps publication) at hand for reference
