Creative Writing Workshop
Following recent requests, Laois Education Centre is delighted to offer a 2-week Creative Writing Workshop for teachers on Thursday 7th & 21st March. Based on the concept that teachers who write make the best teachers of writers, this introductory workshop will provide techniques to empower teachers to develop their writing skills. Within a community of teacher-writers, we will create a safe and enriching space in which to identify sources of inspiration, share our ideas and embrace our writer self. All of these skills can be shared in our classrooms with our student writers. This workshop is suitable for both Primary and Post-Primary teachers.
Pauline McNamee is a writer, poet, post-primary English and history teacher and writing workshop facilitator. She recently graduated from NUIG with an MA in Writing. In 2016, she completed the Summer Writing Institute for Teachers (SWIFT) in NUI, Maynooth. Pauline’s poetry is published in the Bay Area Writing Project’s Digital Paper. In spring 2019, she will have an essay and poem published in the UK publication English in Education.
Her poem “The Key to Liberation” was a finalist in the 2018 Cúirt International Festival of Literature Spoken Word Platform. Her novel The Last Journey was highly commended in the fiction category of 2018 Over The Edge New Writer of the Year. In February 2019, Pauline is the featured reader in the Over The Edge Open Reading in Galway City Library.
