Supporting the Wellbeing of LGBTQ+ Young People in Post-Primary Schools 12.2.25 Cancelled
Belong To are the national organisation supporting LGBTQ+ young people in Ireland. Operating since 2003, we have worked with LGBTQ+ young people in a variety of different settings to create a world where they are equal, safe, and valued. Since 2022, Belong To have trained more than 6,000 staff in post-primary schools and Youthreach centres participating in their whole-school LGBTQ+ Quality Mark initiative.
This session will be facilitated by Stephen Cassidy and Luke Madden from Belong To. Stephen is the Education and Training Manager with Belong To and is a passionate and experienced training facilitator. He has been involved in the development and delivery of Belong To’s LGBTQ+ Quality Mark initiative within over 100 post-primary and Youthreach centres. Luke is the Education and Training Officer with Belong To and facilitates regular training sessions with schools and Youthreach centres within the LGBTQ+ space.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Outline challenges faced by LGBTQ+ students in educational settings
- Make use of evidence-based interventions to create LGBTQ+ inclusive schools
- Create LGBTQ+ inclusive school policies
- Design LGBTQ+ inclusive curriculum resources
- Create a process for tackling LGBTQ+phobic language and bullying in their school
- Outline processes for setting up and running an LGBTQ+/Allies club in their school
- Develop strategies for promoting the wellbeing of LGBTQ+ students in school”
