Financial Maths 1 at Leaving Certificate Higher Level (29.2.2020)
A one day course covering aspects of Strand 3.1, the Number section of the Leaving Certificate Higher Level Mathematics Syllabus.
The day will focus on
? The basics of compound interest.
? Compounding frequencies.
? AER , EAR and CAR.
? What is an annuity?
? Ordinary Annuities.
? Annuities Due.
? Deferred Annuities
? Present value of an annuity.
? Future value of an annuity.
? Sinking Funds
? Mortgage repayment formula
There will be ample opportunity for participants to engage with the material by working through examples and there will be full worked solutions to all examples.

Tony Hayes has been a teacher of Higher Level Leaving Certificate Mathematics in Ard Scoil Mhuire, Bruff, Co. Limerick from 1978 to 2011 and was the head of the Mathematics department in the school for the entire duration of that time. In June 2011 he joined the Project Maths Development Team. As a member of the PMDT, Tony has delivered over one hundred and fifty Workshops and Seminars throughout the Republic of Ireland, as well as facilitating in the region of one hundred school visits. Tony’s role with the PMDT also included the development of content for the Workshops, seminars and modular coursed provided by PMDT as well as online resources available to teachers on www.projectmaths.ie.
From January 2013 to December 2018 Tony worked for the University of Limerick delivering the Pedagogy Workshop element of the Professional Diploma in Mathematics for Teaching.
Tony has also, over the last four years worked on the Professional Masters in Education programme in Trinity College Dublin as guest lecturer and supervisor of the teaching practise section of the course.
Since September 2018 Tony is lecturing Mathematics and Mathematical Pedagogy to The Professional Masters in Education students in the University of Limerick while still working with Trinity College.
In January of 2019 Tony was invited to deliver a workshop on Problem Solving in Bangor Academy and Sixth Form College in the North of Ireland and arising from this has been contacted by The Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) in the North of Ireland with the intention of delivering Problem Solving Workshops to Maths teachers throughout The North of Ireland.
In Semester 1 of the academic year 2019/2020 Tony has lectured Mathematics on the B.A. in Education Mathematics and Gaeilge program in MIC St. Patrick’s Campus Thurles.
Over the last seven years Tony has developed a number of one day courses focusing on content material for Mathematics Teachers of all levels, which are delivered in a private capacity through the network of Education Centres throughout the Republic of Ireland.
Tony also works with the Mathematics departments of a number of schools in the Republic of Ireland, upskilling their staffs in terms of both content knowledge and pedagogical practise.
