This workshop aims to introduce teachers to visible and tactile methods for the development of children’s number-concepts.
As an example of classroom teaching-method, this sequence is used: From visible picture-making - to mental picture - to concept.
This addresses the need of all children, to inwardly picture number-relationships, and especially the needs of those who struggle to do this.
Where appropriate, the focus will be on the specific needs of the dyslexic and the dyscalculic children. The workshop will contain references to the Primary Mathematics Curriculum.
This is a taster workshop with a view to offering the full course over 5 days 'Arithmetic Through the Senses' in the academic year 2019/2020.
