The PDST Wellread National Award was inaugurated in 2015 by the Professional Development Service for Teachers to honour the fantastic promotion of reading for pleasure by schools across the country. The registration window for schools is now opening and the PDST would like to invite schools to register for a possible award in October 2023 or thereafter.
The PDST Wellread National Award aims to promote the development of a reading culture in school communities because research has shown that this support the personal and academic development of our your people. The award require the involvement of all stakeholder including students, teachers, parents, the board of management and the wider community in reading and associated activities.
To support schools in their engagement with this award, we would like to invite teachers to attend an online "Wellread Information Session". I would be grateful if you could bring this schedule to the attention of the relevant teachers in your school. The session will outline ways in which schools might explicitly foster and nurture a reading culture in your school, including exploring practical considerations concerning the reading environment and establishing reader networks. This session will also consider ways in which schools might capture their "Wellread journey". Further information can also be found on the PDST website. Please ensure you have good internet service to attend these workshops and that your have access to the email provided.
For schools who are already on their Wellread journey and registered from the academic year of 202-2021 and 2021-2022, you do not need to re-register. The date for submitting your portfolio this year will be Friday 19th May 2023.
