Conflict is less elegantly handled in schools than in other organisations (S.Ruth, 2015). This session will give participants an opportunity to reflect on the reasons behind conflict scenarios in schools, to differentiate between good/bad conflict, and to understand how each adult in the school community must take responsibility for nurturing a positive and supportive school culture. The seminar will explore the role of listening, asking questions, building relationships and managing group meetings where there is a possibility/likelihood of conflict arising.
The webinar for primary and post-primary teachers will include references to The Dark Side of School Culture (Mannix-McNamara et al, 2021).
It is hoped that the seminar will give support to those who may be experiencing conflict in their work situation through reflection on conflict as an issue within schools and through learning some essentials for dealing with inter-personal conflict.
The session will assist participants to be pro-active in managing themselves in conflict situations.
